The staff of the Jason Program feels that critically ill children deserve the
best care possible. Much of our efforts are aimed at creating a system that will
provide this for all of Maine's children. Below is a list of what we must
be. If you have any ideas or comments for us, please give us feedback
so we can grow.
 | Psychosocial Services
 | Continuous counseling for patients and their families. This service
will be provided by the Jason Program team or with local counselors as
the situation dictates. |
 | Discussion groups for bereaved parents and family members. |
 | Internet support, with access to information, resources, and
discussion groups. |
 | Team support, to provide members of treatment teams access to group or
individual counseling, helping the caregivers care for themselves. |
|
 | Medical Services
 | Access to complete end-of-life care, where pain and suffering are
never tolerated. |
 | Supportive care clinic, where outpatients can receive care for chronic
pain, fatigue, and other debilitating symptoms. |
 | Integrative medicine service, where complementary interventions are
blended with standard western medical interventions. |
|
 | Teaching
 | Establishment and ongoing support of 10 regional centers trained in
pediatric palliative care. |
 | Establish a curriculum and certification exam in pediatric palliative
care for nurses nationwide. |
 | Involve medical, osteopathic, and PA residents in certified courses in
palliative care. |
 | Participation in the American Medical Association EPEC
program. |
|
 | Nationwide Activities
 | Collaboration with other palliative care groups to improve teaching
and establish standards of care. |
 | Collaboration with national research groups, generating and publishing
new information to help improve medical and social services. |
 | Cooperation with regulatory boards for ongoing certification and CPQI. |
|
 | Financial Support
 | Cooperation with nationwide groups, such as the Ronald-McDonald
Charities |
 | Establishment of a Jason Program endowment, to provide ongoing support
of our efforts. |
 | Establishment of a children's fund, to provide assistance to needy
families. |
|
 | The Jason Program Home
 | Development of a site that will house all our activities, providing a
safe haven for critically ill children and their families. |
