"The myth that young children and infants do not
experience pain or do not remember it has not only been disproved but it
also has been shown that untreated pain in infants can cause disturbances
well beyond the pain-causing event. Yet, appropriate treatment of pain in
children continues to be a serious problem. A recent survey of parents of
children who died found that 89% of the parents believed their child had
suffered “a lot” or “a great deal” in the last month of life."
