think we can be of assistance. We take only referrals from physicians who serve as the primary caregiver for the patient and  assume no direct care without your permission. Consultation is provided by Dr. Allegretta, and the specifics of support will then be at your discretion.

Present Services - Offered to the Primary Care Team

Medical Consultation

We offer you and your team assistance with all supportive care issues such as pain control,  nausea, dyspnea, fluids and nutrition, venous access, etc. Ongoing advice will be supplied at your request. Home visits can be made on a case-by-case basis, and we will communicate with the family only after consultation with you. Complete documentation and teaching materials are provided. You retain primary control of your patient, although, if you desire, other arrangements will be considered in light of our available resources.

Teaching

We offer our expertise to you and your community, to foster understanding of palliative care issues as they affect children. As party of a medical consultation, we offer teaching of topics such as pain control, technical interventions, and the philosophy of palliative care to team and community members. We can also come to your area, and present lectures or seminars on this topic.

Advocacy

If you wish support in your community, regarding either a specific situation or a global issue, we are available to offer our support. After reviewing your request, we will determine the level of support you desire and that we can offer. Our connection to a number of national groups and policies may be particularly useful to you in this arena. 

Future Goals

Expanded Consultative Services 

While we strive to preserve the autonomy of the primary care team, we recognize that some primary care providers will not feel comfortable in some situations. We hope to offer the option, at your discretion, to assume higher levels of support for you patient. For example, we could provide hospital care only or completely assume care of either the supportive issue or the entire medical situation. We are always interested in understanding your needs. Please contact us if there is a service you desire.

Acute Care

We are planning to establish a Jason Program Center, where patients can access many services, including acute supportive care. Here we plan to provide consultations, pain management, hydration, nausea relief, and nutritional support. 

Research

While our primary focus is to provide direct care, we firmly believe that we need always to strive to improve the quality of that care. We plan to cooperate with national groups and investigate local options to participate in that effort. 

Quality

While several of our endeavors already conform to established national standards, we are in the process of securing formal accreditations. All our personnel are required to maintain licensing in accordance with their specific disciplines.
