Listen
to the Children By
Nanette Thorsen-Snipes
 |
We
named this story because we feel it expresses a common theme of ours
so eloquently. It brought tears to my eyes when I first read it, and
we hope it helps you see into the heart of children and grow from what
they have to give. Click

Jesus
A Poem by Grace
 |
This
is a wonderful example how kids teach us, if we only take the time to
listen. Grace is a 13 year old girl who has lived with increasing
muscle weakness since birth. She cannot walk, and at times needs a
machine to help her breathe. Grace also has a wonderful spirit and a
love of life. I noticed this poem hanging by her bedside recently,
amongst many pieces of her artwork, CDs, and a hamster cage. With wet
eyes I stared at it awhile, then told her how great it thought it was.
She agreed to share this poem with others. Grace wrote it at age
11.

The
Beloved by James C. Brown, MD
 |
Even
the shortest of lives has profound meaning. The value of a life is not
dependent upon length of time on this earth, but rather on the amount
of love given and shared during the time that we have. Listen to the
children even if they cannot speak words.

Permission
to Cry by Hanoch McCarty
 |
We
all have probably heard that "it's OK to cry" at some time
in our life. Often we forget this lesson, hiding our emotions for many
reasons. When we learn from children, again, the message changes us.

Celebrate
Life by Sister Sue Tracy, OP
 |
In
early June, I was the speaker at our annual National Cancer Survivor
Day picnic. This year's theme was CELEBRATE LIFE. I
took each letter and found a concept to suit it. When I shared
the outline of my talk with Mary, my niece, she replied, "Aunt
Sue, what you said can apply to anyone – not just people with
cancer." Thus, I share CELEBRATE LIFE.

I'll
Make You a Rainbow by
Linda Bremner
 |
Looking
back, I've often thought the doctors should have written a death
certificate for me as well as my son, for when he died, a part of me
died too....Andy was gone, but even in the shock of that first wave of
grief, I felt comforted. Andy had made the rainbow that he promised
me-the one I would never forget.

Let's Go, Daddy by
J. Marty Appelbaum
 |
Sometimes we forget how important our presence can be
for a child. Equally important is the ability to recognize that, often
with the help of others, and choose to "be there" when we're needed.
