The American Board of Pediatrics Now Offers Certification in
Pediatric Palliative Care
 |
The ABP has received approval
from the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) to offer a
Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
The ABP will partner with several additional boards to co-sponsor this
certificate with each board awarding its own certificates but using a
common examination administratively developed under the leadership of
American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). It is anticipated that the
first examination will be offered in the fall of 2008. Additional
information and the eligibility criteria will be provided on the ABP Web
site as it becomes available.

The
American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine promotes excellence in
the delivery of medical care to all patients with advanced, progressive
illness through the development of standards for training and practice
in palliative medicine. The core values of ABHPM are:

Hospice and Palliative Medicine (ABHPM) certification examination is
now administered via computer at over 300 certified Prometric(r)
Testing Centers in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico through
contractual arrangement with the National Board of Medical Examiners(r)
(NBME(r)). Application materials are available; to request an exam

Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association
HPNA began as the Hospice Nurses
Association (HNA) on June 29, 1986 at a meeting of the Southern
California Hospice Association. HPNA has experienced tremendous growth
since 1993. This was in response to their formation of the National
Board for Certification of Hospice Nurses, to develop a
credentialing process for hospice nurses. HPNA enjoys collegial
relationships with many other related professional organizations.

American Nurses Credentialing Center Announces New Certification for
Pain Management Nurses
 |
ANCC is introducing this important nursing certification in
collaboration with the American Society for Pain Management Nursing (ASPMN),
the nation's leading organization for nurses committed to improving the
way pain is managed. The certification is available to licensed,
registered nurses, whose clinical practice whose clinical practice
includes work with diverse patient populations experiencing pain. |

Advanced Practice Palliative Care Nurse Certificate Program (APPCN)
 |
The
University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing is
beginning an advanced practice palliative care certificate
program with an $800,000 grant from HHS. Program graduates will
be certified in their own specialty area, such as pediatrics,
geriatrics, maternal nursing and palliative care.
