Social Work Fellowship

A postgraduate Social Work Fellowship in palliative and end
of life care is available through the Department of Pain Medicine and
Palliative Care (DPMPC) at Beth Israel Medical Center. The fellowship
program provides a supervised experience in the multidimensional assessment
and care of patients, in multiple practice sites.
The program will be offered on a full time basis for one year. Completed

Pediatric Palliative Care: On line courses with Mount Ida College
(new February 2005)

If you would like to enter into the virtual world of
education, consider an online learning experience in pediatric palliative
care. NHPCO is presenting a series of on line courses with Mount Ida
College, including pain management, program development, bereavement, and
ethics. The first course is on pain management in children and begins Feb.

The online learning programs offer flexibility that career professionals
require. The courses are offered on WebCt, which is user friendly and
requires no special software or advanced computer skills. Courses, which are
four weeks in length, are comprised of a weekly readings, "lecture" and
on-going discussions between faculty and participants. The format is
asynchronous, enabling students to read lecture notes and participate in
discussion at their convenience, day or night and regardless of time zone.

Harvard Medical School Center for Palliative Care - Program in Palliative
Care Education and Practice
(new February 2005)

The Program in Palliative Care Education and Practice (PCEP),
is a faculty development course that will be held April 5-12, 2005 and
November 9-15, 2005.
This two-week, learner-centered educational program is designed to provide
intensive learning experiences for physician-and nurse- educators who wish
to become expert in the clinical practice and teaching of comprehensive,
interdisciplinary palliative care. Educators also will gain expertise in
leading and managing improvements in palliative care education and practice
at their own institutions. Participants receive mentorship and support in
carrying out projects at their home institutions. Multiple educational
formats, including small groups, large group discussions, panels, skills
practice, standardized patients, and demonstrations will be used throughout
the course. This program complements the CAPC programming through focusing
on teaching about palliative care in multiple different settings, and
through providing two weeks of intensive networking and learning about the
core elements of our discipline. |

A postgraduate Social Work Fellowship in palliative and end

The Center for Innovative Practice at the Smith
College School for Social Work (Northampton, MA) announces four
unexpected openings in its post-Masters' Certificate Program in End of
Life Care. This program is clinically based, and provides two one-week
didactic sessions in end-of-life care content, including practice,
ethics, legal issues, uses of self, palliative and hospice care,
leadership, and advanced practice issues. These are punctuated by an
eight-month internship in which students receive clinical supervision
provided through the school.
Interested candidates have until May 13, 2002, to compete for these
four openings.

The Heart of Healing - Palliative Care
and the Arts

A four-part continuing education series for
health-care professionals, artists, people living with
life-threatening illness, caregivers, families and friends,
