Clinical Nurse

Bowen & Briggs is a nurse-owned, national search firm
specializing in women’s and children’s healthcare. We are assisting the
University of Wisconsin Children’s Hospital (Madison, WI) in their
search for a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Pain Management. Below is a very
brief description of this excellent opportunity (a full description can
be sent upon request):
Responsibilities of the CNS include staffing the Inpatient Pain
Management Consultation Service and collaboration with physicians,
nurses, and other care providers, to ensure well-coordinated,
interdisciplinary programs of care. Consultation includes assistance to
develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive plan of care, including
discharge plan, for patients with complex pain problems, to achieve
desired outcomes. The CNS is responsible for the integration and
coordination of specialty education programs into the Department of
Nursing’s education program.
Candidates for this position must have pediatric clinical
experience and expertise in management of pain, including acute
postoperative/traumatic pain, chronic non-cancer, and cancer related
pain conditions. Prior advanced practice nursing experience is
preferred. The CNS will demonstrate in-depth knowledge and skills
regarding pain management nursing practice with a special interest in
nonpharmacologic strategies. MSN is required. Pain certification from
ANA is desired, either current or to be obtained. This position offers a

Pediatric Psychology Position at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

The Department of Psychology at The Children's Hospital
of Philadelphia is pleased to announce the availability of a
psychologist position in the Pain Management Program, Department of
Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. The psychologist will provide
psychological assessment and treatment to pediatric patients with
amplified musculoskeletal pain and their families through participation
in an intensive hospital-based treatment program; consult with
multidisciplinary staff about psychological aspects of pediatric care;
and serve as a resource to community mental health care providers who
are seeing these children and their families. Psychologists supervise
psychology interns and fellows within our APA accredited internship
program and develop other training activities. Opportunities exist for
collaboration in ongoing interdisciplinary clinical research programs
for the treatment of pediatric amplified musculoskeletal pain; research
experience will be considered in the review of applications. Applicants
must have a doctoral degree in psychology, relevant experience in
pediatric, clinical child and/or family psychology and have completed an
APA approved internship. Licensure or license-eligibility in
Pennsylvania is required. The review process will begin immediately.

Director for the American Alliance for Cancer Pain Initiatives (AACPI)
 |
Degree and area of specialization:
MS degree in business, health science, public health, social work or related
field.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Six or more years experience conducting research and establishing relationships
with diverse organizations and populations or experience related to the
undertreatment of pain. Experience directing/leading outreach and project staff.
Ability to design and develop outreach programs that address barriers to pain
management (clinical, regulatory, policy, etc.).

Principal duties:
The AACPI researches the culture of caution in healthcare organizations which
treat patients and their pain. The AACPI works with state and regional Pain
Initiatives in the U.S. to identify policies and practices which fail to respond
adequately to patient pain and how these policies and practices impact
caregivers and patients. With these results, the AACPI develops concepts for
programming and outreach to educate healthcare professionals about the
importance of pain management in the care and treatment of patients. This
position will lead the AACPI by establishing national programming goals,
bridging new research with clinical practice, incorporating AACPI objectives in
the central office housed at the UW, and establishing Wisconsin and the
surrounding region as a benchmark for achievement for the rest of the country.
60% Work with the Advisory Council of the AACPI to identify strategic priorities
for national outreach and education programming. Incorporate priorities into
outreach, education, advocacy, and regulatory efforts. Ensure that national
priorities of AACPI are integrated with the regional goals of the State Pain
Initiatives program. Implement a development program to support the activities
of national office of AACPI and the State Pain Initiatives program which
includes building and maintaining collaborative relationships with each other
and other national organizations (e.g., American Cancer Society, American Pain
Foundation, etc.) Oversee the operation of the UW AACPI office including program
implementation, project staffing, and program results.
40% Work with faculty, physicians, and researchers to identify barriers to pain
management. Collaborate with AACPI staff nationwide to develop research
proposals and publish findings in professional publications. Translate research
into accessible text for inclusion in national outreach publications. Identify
research funding opportunities and develop proposals to secure support for State
Pain Initiatives regional office.
