We exist simply because children have touched our hearts.
We believe they should be listened to and cared for.

To the Jason Program Community --

|
Welcome
to winter in Maine, and thank you for the many recent subscriptions
to this newsletter. We appreciate your interest in our program,
knowing that your interest will help children and families in need.
We've had pretty cold weather here recently (it's 3 degrees below
zero now in Portland) -- a reminder of our fortune to have heat and
shelter and the need of those who don't.
We have
added many new item to our site, and invite you to visit them. As
always, your
feedback is welcome. On the local front, details for our
Advanced Study Course are well in progress, with the dates set
for August 20-23 this year. With assistance from Jason Program
staff, Southern Maine Medical Center will host a two-part EPEC
conference in May. You can find the details
here. Many other educational opportunities are available on our
Calendar and
Courses pages.
Several
new tools and documents are available. We recently formalized
recommendations for the management of pain in newborns at Southern
Maine Medical Center. You can view the document, which is intended
for use in a normal newborn nursery,
here. You will need the Acrobat reader, which you can download
for free
here.
Other policies, dealing with DNR orders, withdrawing therapy, and
pain management, can be found on our updated
Tools page.
Please consider using the
Patient's
Bill of Rights, produced by the American Academy of Pain
Management, to show your philosophy and concern to your patients.
Tools for pain and quality of life assessment are also available.
The
Patient Help section
includes some new items, including a collection of
Quotations and
Verse, which offers short words of wisdom we hope brings a bit
of comfort in times of need. A section on Fibromyalgia, has been
added to the
Web Sites and
Publications
page. Science is continuously learning more about this condition,
which affects children as well as adults.
We hope
you find this information useful, and as always, on behalf of
the children, we thank you for your interest and caring.

Sincerely,
