We exist simply
because children have touched our hearts.
We believe they should be listened to and cared for.

To all the members of our news list, colleagues, and friends --
We are pleased to inform you that our yearly conference and advanced training course will be presented this year in partnership with the University of New England.
UNE is a well-respected teaching intuition with two distinct campuses located in the coastal towns of Biddeford and Westbrook, Maine. The University has degree programs in health sciences, natural sciences, human services, management, education and the liberal arts, with an enrollment of more than 3,800 students. The University includes Maine's only medical school, the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, which emphasizes the education of primary care physicians. We are thrilled to have them as partners.
This year's teaching conference, entitled "Pediatric Hospice and Palliative Care: The Time Has Come", will be held on June 20, 21, & 22. We are fortunate to present three nationally esteemed individuals:
Bruce Himelstein, M.D. Program Director, Palliative Care
Children's Hospital of Wisconsin: "Current issues in Pediatric Palliative Care and Hospice"
Suzanne Toce, M.D. Primary Investigator, Footprints Pediatric Palliative Care Program
Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, St. Louis Missouri: "Neonatal Palliative Care"
Geraldine Haynes, M.D. Director, Palliative Care
Children's Hospital and Regional Med Center, Seattle Washington: "Decision Making in End of Life Care"
The details of this conference are evolving. Please check our Calendar
page for updates.
Last year's Advanced Training Course in Pediatric Palliative Care was a great success, despite the dog days of summer. We are pleased to offer it again this year, from August 21-25, and are extending enrollment to all health care professionals. Thanks again to UNE for their support of this endeavor, which includes, among much else, a large, air-conditioned room for everyone's comfort. Please check the
Calendar page for evolving details.
Please browse our website for new information. "Professionals" section, there is a new page entitled "Opinions", where you can view selected discussions from the EPEC Resources discussion group, sponsored by GrowthHouse.org. We have an expanded "search" page, with an option to search GrowthHouse for items specifically related to palliative care, or to use Google, and extraordinarily fast, complete search engine. Other choices are also available. You may wish to view our
News page for more updates. Also, jobs are available for nurses in southern Maine to help with respite care for critically ill children. Please contact
Greg Burns if you wish more information.
While we usually send this newsletter to those who have subscribed from the website, we have chosen to include our friends and colleagues in this mailing, to inform you of the teaching options. If you do wish to receive further newsletters, please go to our

As always, on behalf of the children, we thank you for your interest and caring.
Sincerely,
The Jason Program Team
